Vicky Thomas, VP Product & Design at Clockwise
Vicky is the VP Product at Clockwise, where she leads the product management and product design teams to help the world make time for what matters. Prior to Clockwise, Vicky built products and product teams at Adobe, Lucid Software, Vivint Smart Home, and Rivet. Vicky’s decade of product leadership experience spans consumer software to enterprise SaaS, smart home mobile apps to healthcare IT, and Series A to public companies. She is a passionate advocate for STEM education and inclusivity in tech, and is a longtime volunteer for FIRST robotics and her alma mater, MIT. When she’s not working or volunteering, Vicky can be found flying small airplanes or adventuring in Utah’s great outdoors.

Ethical Design of Intelligent Systems for Healthcare.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming healthcare and medicine with intelligent systems that assist in making medical diagnostic and prognostic decisions. However, the use of AI in such sensitive issues as people’s health implies taking special care of ethical issues such as privacy, explainability, transparency, accountability, human control and fairness. In this seminar session, we will discuss ethical design applied to the creation of intelligent systems for healthcare and its practical application in some use cases.
ABOUT Lourdes Martínez Villaseñor
Dr. Lourdes Martínez Villaseñor holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Estado de México Campus, as well as a Master’s in Family Education from IPCE at Universidad Panamericana. She is a research professor specializing in artificial intelligence at Universidad Panamericana and serves as the academic head of the Master’s in Data Science program. Recognized as a Level 1 member of the National System of Researchers (SNI) by Conahcyt, Dr. Martínez Villaseñor is also the President of the Mexican Society of Artificial Intelligence. She was honored with the prestigious 2023 North America Women Leaders in Responsible Artificial Intelligence Award. Her research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, user modeling, and AI ethics. With more than 30 years of teaching experience, she has authored over 65 publications in international journals and conferences, book chapters, and 11 books in the field of artificial intelligence.


Ethical Decisions: The Engineer’s Responsibility
Join the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership and a special guest panel to discuss the role of ethics and leadership for engineers and technology professionals, and how ideals affect engineering decisions and innovations. Attendees will be able to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
A reception will follow the panel discussion in the lobby area outside McMurtry Auditorium.
